An SEO Audit tells how your website can be improved to make it more popular with Search Engines.
It checks for such things as:
1. Focus Keywords - are added to each page
2. Descriptions - Google truncates descriptions to 155 - 160 characters so descriptions should be between 50 - 160 characters
3. SSL (Secure Socket Layer) Certificate - Without an SSL Certificate, your website would show as "not secure".
4. Permalink Structure - is how your URLs for pages and posts are created. Search Engines prefer short URLs.
5. Speed - includes Server Response Time and the length of time it takes your page to load.Â
6. Sitemap - is a detailed index of all the URLs of your pages, written in a language that the search engines understand.
7. Broken Links - as websites grow and age, sometimes their external links are no longer valid. An audit will check for broken links so they can be deleted or redirected to a new location.Â
8. Image "alt" tags - The images on each page should contain your keyword for that specific page.
9. Image Optimization - images should not be larger than what a monitor can display, so they must be sized, and then compressed. Compression often results in loss of detail, so it is a compromise between image quality and file size. A large file will take up server resources and cause the website to load slowly.
10. Canonicalization - If your website is set up to go to http://example.com and http://www.example.com, the search engines could index both, resulting in duplicate content issues. We set up your website to use the direct domain of http://example.com with a forward, so that http://www.example.com will go http://example.com
11. Schema (or Rich Snippets) refers to a code that is added to your page to give search engines additional information which they use to display in the search results. This usually results in more clicks to your website.
12. Mobile Optimization - often text on a desktop, if not adjusted to compensate, will be too small to read on a phone, so layouts, navigation menus, images, and especially text must be reviewed to make sure all looks good on all devices.
